Welcome to Volusia ARES®
The Volusia County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES®) is a volunteer corps of licensed radio amateurs who have expressed a desire to be of assistance to their neighbors during times of disaster. Our mission is to provide a viable response to local or regional communications system outages or overloads during times of disaster. As directed by the Volusia County Emergency Management or other served agency, we provide back-up communications until normal communications are restored. We also provide communications services to public service events, such as the Bike MS: PGA TOUR Cycle to Shore and support the National Weather Service's SKYWARN program.
We hold our regular meetings on the first Saturday of each month at 09:00 Eastern at the Volusia County Fire Training Center, which is located at 3889 Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach, FL. We also hold many hands-on training sessions throughout the year.
The Volusia ARES® Weekly Training Net is held every Sunday evening at 19:00 Eastern on the KV4EOC 147.240 (+600, 123 Hz PL) repeater.
Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization is eligible to apply for membership in Volusia ARES®. Because ARES® is an Amateur Radio program, only licensed radio amateurs are eligible for membership. Not all who apply will be approved for membership in Volusia ARES®. To apply for membership, attend at least two back-to-back monthly meetings and ask for a membership application at your second (or later) meeting.
Extensive training is required to participate fully in Volusia ARES® and the possession of emergency-powered amateur radio equipment is a requirement for membership in Volusia ARES®.
